Women’s soccer started their season strong with a 3-1 win against Los Angeles City College and look to improve to 2-0 when they play host to Victor Valley on Tuesday.
It was a complete team effort across the board on both sides of the ball. Offensively, the Lady Monarchs put their team chemistry on display, as all three goals were scored by different athletes.
Forward Angie Gomez opened up the scoring early in the game, scoring in the 18th minute. Shortly after, midfielder Desiree Monge scored off of an assist from teammate Samantha Valencia. Monge made a real impact on the game, pressuring LACC’s defense with three shots on goal. This pressure would help her go on to assist Monica Velasquez Rodas, whose goal would ice the game.
Goalkeeper Nina Diaz anchored the defense, denying three of four shots on goal attempted by the Bruins.
This will be Valley’s second non-conference game, as they don’t start conference play until October 1.
